Saloukee has indeed received a rather sparkly award from the British jewellers Association no less!! It all happened at the British Craft Trade Fair (BCTF) in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, a show described as ‘the very best British makers … instrumental in influencing future trends within the industry’. The Fair was a trade only and therefore meant it was not open to the public but with ‘buyers travelling from all over the world’- apparently!!!
I was the only jeweller to be presented with an award at the fair which as a newcomer was a huge surprise and a great honour!! After being shortlisted to a final 8 exhibitors by the British Jewellers Association panel of three judges, I was eventually awarded the prize for ‘Excellence in Jewellery’ for my ‘Dynamic, immaculately crafted and commercially viable pieces’. The prize that I won includes £1000 worth of publicity and one year’s free membership to the British Jewellers Association as well as a beautiful winner’s trophy- a pewter bowl designed and made by Sheffield pewterer and silversmith Keith Tyssen … check me out!!
Aside from that the Trade Fair also brought editions to the Saloukee debut ‘To Cherish’ collection. More commercially viable pieces, which I hope will appeal to a broader spectrum of individuals. These are due on the online shop very soon, so watch this space to bag yourself a piece of the action!!
I also had another good bit of news last week, which was the fact that I’ve just been accepted into ‘Origin: The London Craft Fair’- said to be the ‘very best of craft talent’ with exhibitors being a mixture of national and international designer makers. The event had over 700 applications this year and will be held in Somerset House in London in October and I’m so very excited!! Even more so now I know at least three of my fellow Design Space buddies are to be part of it too!! Go Clare, Sang and Louise!!
