Saloukee… Perfect for a royal first year wedding anniversary

A month today, April 29th, will be the first wedding anniversary of Prince William and Kate Middleton, which is traditionally marked by the gift of paper.

A great deal of thought and sentiment went into the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s very public yet very personal wedding, from William’s proposal with his mother Diana’s sapphire and diamond engagement ring, to the sentimental touches of the day itself. On her wedding day, the Duchess’ meaningful jewellery choices included the Cartier ‘Halo’ tiara, her something borrowed, which was lent to the Duchess by The Queen. The tiara is part of the Crown Jewels, originally a gift for the Queen Mother, before being presented to The Queen on her 18th Birthday. The design of Kate’s earrings, which were commissioned by her parents for her ‘something new’, incorporated oak leaves and pear-shaped diamonds, elements of the Middleton family’s newly appointed coat of arms.

The dress represented British craftsmanship, designed in London by Sarah Burton, and proudly made by British artisans, using British fabric where possible, and striving to marry traditional fabrics and lacework with modern structure and design. The dress was made with ivory and white satin gazar, while the underskirt was made of silk tulle trimmed with Cluny lace, with an unseen piece of blue ribbon sewn into the ling of the dress to satisfy tradition. The lace used for the bodice and skirt was hand-made by the Royal school of Needlework in Hampton Court Palace, and hand-engineered onto ivory silk tulle to create a unique design, incorporating the emblems of the UK, the rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock. As tradition dictates for royal weddings, the bride’s bouquet contained a sprig of myrtle from the original myrtle bush planted by Queen Victoria at Osborne House, Isle of Wight.
